Regional Institute of Medical Sciences
Origin – The origin of setting up the first ever medical college in Manipur, started with the then Union Home Minister Shri Y B Chavan on Oct 22, 1968 with inaugurating General Hospital with 300 beds. Later in May 22, 1972, then Governor of Manipur, Shri B K Nehru laid the foundation stone of the first medical college in Manipur by the name ‘Manipur Medical College’.
Objective – The main goal for setting up of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal is to impart medical education of high quality to the students of North Eastern Region States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. To cater to the healthcare needs of the population of NER States. Resulting in the increase of health man-power of North Eastern Region States of India.
Admission to UG / PG Courses – Admissions are done based on the common entrance test conducted by Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur. The candidates on the basis of merit in the Common Entrance Examination are nominated by the government of Manipur.
