The college came into existence in the year 1924. The affiliation of this institution is to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
The Government Medical College Mysore is also called Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI).
MMCRI has approached MCI for the recognition of all its 150 MBBS seats and the recognition is expected to be given by ministry of health and family welfare soon.
